Fishing News

March 8, 2008 – The season is fast approaching….

The herring are trickling in, peepers have been heard, robins are in the yard! All is right in the fishing world. Gear is ready, at least for some! I think by mid-April, I’ll get news of one of the crew catching a striper. I hope you all have great seasons. I’ll be writing an update when I hear more.

Tight lines, John

March 2007 - Promise of a new season

Hello fellow fishers! As we get ready to embark on a new adventure, the 2007 season, I'd like to look back on 2006. It was, for me, an inconsistent year, not bad, just different! First I thought there was a lack of prime baits we normally have in great abundance. It was here, then gone, so I feel the fish never really settled into their normal summer patterns. Also, we at least I, never found those really bigger bass. Might just be me although I know people that found some, right Bill? I found that Little Tunny were hard to come by, too, but guys on the Vineyard did find some. I know we are all chomping at the bit to feel that first tug and lift a shiny bright schoolie into the sun, admire it and release it! Let's hope that we all have great seasons and great fishing. I'll be looking to try soon. I will also try to post some reports to let everyone know how the season is going for us. Feel free to send your reports or thoughts to us.

Tight lines, screaming reels, John

One summer morning, one nice fight, one nice fat striper, one happy fisherman: Bill Cottle of Bourne.  Fish taken on his trashy lady fly, mid morning on Martha’s Vineyard.

Fly tying through the snowy weather.
This icy weather is only countered by going over the gear, deciding on new line to try and knowing that we have only three full moons to go through before I wet a line up here. Perhaps there can be a trip to Texas in March. For now, fly tying at the MV Rod & Gun Club continues on Monday nights with a large group, once again. Joe Cordeiro, flat wing tyer extraordinaire, is scheduled to lead us in a tie in front of the warm fire from the old stone fireplace on Monday, March 7th (7 PM start).

At Bear's Den Show.  John Kollett, Lefty Kreh, Jake Jakespeare
Thanks for stopping by the TFO booth at the Bear's Den Fly Fishing Show last night. Hope you enjoyed Lefty Kreh's demonstration and got some inspiration and tips for improving your casting. Turning 80, later this week, Lefty was honored with a birthday cake and song. His presentation was so very full of information and how-to on casting. He is a great person, always having time to talk to people and add his signature to one of the many books he has written.

Just back this week from the January round of fly fishing shows. Thanks to all of you who stopped by the Temple Fork booth. It was great to see you and talk fly fishing. Hope to be fishing with some of you this coming season. For now the tying table is getting a workout. Give a shout!
